Possibly the world’s nicest surviving LeCar!

While not currently being driven in the salt-bath, this car is alive and registered! also sitting in the yard was this:

any self-respecting gearhead knows what this is.

My ex-girlfriend’s first car was a Renault 5. Even though she was my ex at the time I was the first person she came to practice her hill starts and motorway driving etiquette in a more relaxed environment.

Similar to this nut in blue.

I was also the only person she brought it to, to have the odd issue fixed.

Probably. By virtue of not only running, but just plain existing, this is the nicest one around. And it’s in nice condition for any 30+ year old car. (bad pics though, sorry.)

I both over and understated. I don’t think they were ever plentiful here, but I remember them driving around. And they’re not nearly extinct they’re gone. Spotting one in any condition is like spotting a small french loch ness monster.

They’re mostly extinct because they were crap. Canadian winters and salted roads destroyed these in no time.

I recall them being somewhat plentiful in the Toronto area in the 1980s. And they were apparently popular in Quebec... like in the Montreal area.

Saying “this is the worlds nicest surviving LeCar” is like saying “This is the worlds nicest surviving cowpie”

These things were shit. One of my brothers had a friend who had one. The clutch and radiator and other stuff had to be replaced before the thing hit 40,000km. And parts were EXPENSIVE. He ditched it and replaced it with a VW Golf when the engine block cracked.

And one of my other brothers worked with a guy who was raving about a Le Car he bought (a 1984 or 1985 model). 1 day after buying it, the little button you pushed to open the door fell off inside the door.

My brother ignored what this guy said and bought a Toyota Tercel... and that car lasted him around 15 years.

The problem with the LeCar wasn’t the design/performance, it was the shoddy build quality and low quality parts.
